Research Project

By polymerizing olefins with a transition metal catalyst in the presence of clay, nanocomposite materials with exfoliated structures can be made.  These nanocomposites are of interest due to their potential enhancement in physical properties such as, flexural modulus and flame retardancy.  We are currently developing methods for making nanocomposites, measuring their physical properties, as well as understanding the activation mechanism of the catalyst by clay.
