Research Project

Solid-supported olefin metathesis catalysts are attractive alternatives to their homogeneous analogues because of facile separations from reaction mixtures and potential reusability. The goal of my project is to support and test Re and Mo metathesis catalysts on solid supports, such as silica, alumina, and silica-alumina. In addition, by combining synthesis with kinetic and spectroscopic measurements, we want to determine the active catalytic species on these solid-supported materials, with the hope that this information will lead to the development of more robust, industrially-applicable catalyst systems.
