The Present: Faculty & Research Undergraduate Program | Graduate Program | Faculty & Research | Dept. Name Change?
Our 18 faculty members are conducting pioneering research in many exciting interdisciplinary areas. Our total annual research funding is over 25 million dollars. Many of our faculty members have joint appointments with other departments. You may also view a listing of the faculty and research areas. Our distinguished faculty members have won many honors and awards. For example, seven have been elected to national academies and four have been awarded endowed chairs.
We are very pleased to introduce our three newest faculty members.
Susannah Scott’s research interests include surface organometallic chemistry, heterogeneous catalysts, and inorganic reaction mechanisms. Susannah joined our Department in 2004 from the University of Ottawa where she was a Professor of Chemistry. At UCSB she has a joint appointment with the Department of Chemistry.
Todd Squire’s research interests include fluid mechanics and transport sciences, complex fluids, and physical effects in micron-scale systems. Todd joined the Department in 2005 after completing a Ph.D. in physics at Harvard, followed by three postdoctoral years at Caltech.
Scott Shell’s research interests are in the areas of condensed matter theory and biophysics, with applications to amorphous materials, aqueous solutions, and protein folding and design. Scott will join UCSB in September, 2007, after completing post-doctoral research at UC-San Francisco. He earned his PhD in chemical engineering at Princeton. |
