The Arts Building: Our first home

For an early history of the Department (1965-1980), see Dale Seborg’s article in Chemical Engineering Education.

A summary of the Department’s more recent history (post-1980) will be included in an early edition of the new Department Newsletter which will be launched in 2007. Be sure to register for the Newsletter by completing a brief questionnaire.

What was the undergraduate ChE curriculum like in 1967? Compare it with our current curriculum.

Our current home: Eng II Building

Up to 1980, the UCSB College of Engineering was quite small, consisting of only three academic departments. Although there are currently only five departments, the College was recently rated the number one Engineering Program in the U.S. by the Princeton Review. (We have come a long way!)

Our Alumni

We take great pride in the outstanding contributions of our alumni in industry, government and academia. Here are three very distinguished alums:

Mr. Darryl McCall
Vice President, The Procter and Gamble Company.

Dr. Leroy Chiao
NASA Astronaut and Space Shuttle Commander.

Professor Gene Lucas Executive Vice Chancellor, UCSB.
