The Present: Undergraduate Program Undergraduate Program | Graduate Program | Faculty & Research | Dept. Name Change?
We are pleased to report that our undergraduate program has been significantly improved in several ways:
• A revised core curriculum • New ChE lab experiments • A revitalized AIChE Student Chapter
In 2004-05, the core curriculum was revised to include required required courses in biochemistry, cell biology, and a second required course in chemical reactor design and analysis. The free electives were increased to seven units and the track requirement was replaced by technical electives. Finally, the electrical circuit courses were eliminated. These changes provide a more flexible and up-to-date curriculum.
The second major improvement was to modernize the ChE 180 laboratory by adding new experiments in non-traditional areas. Four new experiments are being added: bioreactor, fuel cell, self-assembly of nanoscale materials, and a catalytic converter. For additional details, see the ChE 180 web site.
The third significant improvement has been the revitalization of the AIChE Student Chapter. Thanks to strong leadership in recent years, and the sage advice of its advisor, Professor Frank Doyle, the student chapter has made major improvements. See the chapter web site for current activities and a photo gallery.
Although the ChE curriculum is quite demanding, students find time to enjoy other campus activities, including varsity sports.
