Beginning with this first issue of ChE News, our Department embarks on an effort to reach out to our alumni and friends in a way that we, and most other departments at UCSB, have not done before. We realize that many of you may not have heard from us, or much about us, in many years. This has been a major oversight on our part. It has deprived us of the opportunity to benefit from your wisdom and insights as our undergraduate and graduate programs have evolved. It has also made it more difficult for alumni and friends to maintain connections and learn of exciting new developments.
